Old Stage Road bridge work: MaineDOT maintenance work on the bridge which carries Old Stage Road over Nequasset Brook is underway and is expected to continue through Nov. 30. The project includes bridge-joint removal, abutment and deck repairs, and placement and curing of concrete.

Travelers on Old Stage Road between Dana Mill Road and Middle Road should expect delays and one-lane traffic controlled by portable signals. Please consider alternate routes when practical and use extra caution near the work zone. 

Open burning safety and permits: Maine is currently experiencing moderate wildfire danger, so please use particular care with any outdoor fire. A burn permit is required for brush piles, wood debris, agricultural burning, and any recreational fire that exceeds the 3-foot size limit. Same-day permits may be requested through Maine Forest Service’s online system.

Senior Property Tax Stabilization Program: Applications for Woolwich’s Senior Property Tax Stabilization Program are now available at the Town Office. Eligible residents must be at least 68 years old, have lived in their homestead for at least 10 years, have paid their 2025 property taxes in full, and provide proof of having filed for the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit. 

Applications are due Nov. 1. For an application or more information, please contact the Town Office at 207-442-7094.

Early and Absentee Voting: Registered Woolwich voters may now request an absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 General Election online through the Maine Secretary of State or by contacting the Town Office. Ballots will be available and mailed beginning Oct. 4. Voters may also cast an absentee ballot in person at the Town Office starting that day, during regular office hours.

No-excuse absentee ballot requests and in-person absentee voting are available through the close of business on Thursday, Oct. 29. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the Town Office no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Dog licenses for 2027 will be available at the Woolwich Town Office beginning Oct. 15, 2026. Maine law requires that all dogs age 6 months and older be licensed. Please bring a current rabies certificate and, if applicable, proof that your dog has been spayed or neutered. Licenses should be renewed by Dec. 31. A $25 late fee per dog applies after the 30-day grace period, beginning Feb. 1.

Coming Events: Main Street Bath’s Autumnfest returns to downtown Bath on Saturday, Oct.  3, with free, family-friendly activities, local music, fall-themed food, and special promotions at participating businesses. Spend $50 or more at participating shops displaying a pinwheel and receive a $10 Gift of Bath Certificate, while supplies last.

Patten Free Library’s fourth annual Spelling Bee Fundraiser will take place Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Library Park. Cheer on adult and teen teams – including a team representing Woolwich – as they compete for the title of Champion Spellers, enjoy a lively community evening, and bid on items in the silent auction. Proceeds support the Library’s programs, services and community spaces. Tickets are available at pattenfreelibrary.org/spellingbee

Volunteer Drivers and Riders Needed: Age Friendly Communities of the Lower Kennebec has successfully expanded its volunteer transportation program to our town, providing essential rides for older adults without other transportation options. Volunteers are needed as drivers to support trips to medical appointments, grocery stores, and other critical destinations. Your time and kindness can make a big difference in the lives of your neighbors. This is not a taxi-style program; riders and drivers submit applications ahead of time.
