The Midcoast Conservancy will be offering a writing workshop with Belfast author Linda Buckmaster on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Conservancy's Hidden Valley Nature Center, 131 Egypt Road, in Jefferson. Writing about a special place involves working with the elements that make it unique while also honoring the things it has in common with other places and times. This may include layers of history, the natural world, culture, and personal story to bring us to the present. Writers might be advocates, critics, or lovers of a place. It might be a place from the past, the future, or this moment.

 

This workshop is suitable for writers of poetry, prose, or anything in between. Through exploration, writing exercises, the work of other authors, and discussion, participants experiment with words to re-create a place that calls to them. No previous writing experience needed! The Workshop will take advantage of the Hidden Valley Nature Center land for inspiration. We will write in plein air and under cover if necessary.

 

Linda Buckmaster has lived within a block of the Atlantic most of her life, growing up in “Space Coast” Florida during the Sixties and living in Waldo County for over 40 years. Her poetry, essay, and fiction have appeared in over 40 journals.

 

She was Atlantic and Gulf Editor for “National Fisherman” magazine and Poet Laureate of Belfast. Two pieces were “Notable Essays” in Best American Essays 2013 and 2020. She has held residencies at Vermont Studios Center, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Obras Foundation among others. Her hybrid memoir, Space Heart. A Memoir in Stages, was published by Burrow Press in 2018.
