Edgecomb selectmen recently had to recreate and re-sign S.R. Griffin Construction's $165,680 snowplowing contract for this winter, when the document turned up missing.

It appears someone took it from the town's files and forgot to put it back, Selectman Stuart Smith said February 12. No one knows who that was, he said.

Town officials have been asked to keep an eye out when people are around the files, but that isn't always easy when the office is busy and a lot of people are there, Smith said.

Selectmen had discussed buying a scanner, to put contracts up on the town's website at www.edgecomb.org/. But a scanner and software have since been donated to the town, saving hundreds of dollars that a purchase would have cost, Smith said.
