Woolwich select board parts ways with tax collector
The Woolwich Select Board is parting ways with town tax collector Linda Dow. The announcement followed a two-hour executive session Wednesday evening, Aug. 28.
“We voted to grant her two weeks severance. She'd been here four months and was a probationary employee,” Selectman Allison Hepler told the Wiscasset Newspaper.
Hepler said the vote was 4-0 to discharge Dow. Selectman Allen Greene was present for the executive session but left before the vote was taken to attend a meeting of the community’s Marijuana Committee, explained Hepler.
The executive session was from 4:30 to 6:05 p.m. at the town office for the stated purpose of discussing a personnel matter.
Dow was present for the executive session but not for the select board vote taken in open session; her last day on the job was Aug. 28, continued Hepler. No reason was stated for her discharge.
"The select board wants to wish her well,” said Hepler.
Reached for comment, Select Board Chairman David King Sr. said the town office would begin advertising the job after Labor Day.
“The town administrator and town clerk will carry out the duties of the tax collector until the position is filled,” he added.
The select board hired Dow, of Boothbay Harbor, this past April.
