Y-Arts Christmas Spectacular: Fun and festive

Mon, 12/09/2019 - 3:45pm

Over 60 children, from pre-school to middle school, in the Y-Arts programs at Boothbay Region YMCA and Central Lincoln County YMCA put on a Christmas Spectacular at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta Friday night and Saturday morning, Dec. 6 and 7. Both shows were well attended and the children put on quite a show.

Featuring dancers (tap, ballet, musical theatre), singers (youth chorus and soloists) and actors – a couple of humor bits – the show featured 20 performances under the direction of Y-Arts Humanities Director Emily Mirabile.

The young dancers, with their festive costumes, put the crowd in a happy mood as they did their best to follow the moves of their dance teacher who prompted them from beside the stage. Some Y-Arts veterans helped them as well.

The students sang and danced to traditional Christmas carols and hymns (“Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Nuttin for Christmas,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and more). Two of the notable performances included the large ensemble of Theatre Workshop players performing the “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” story by Dr. Seuss and the lyrical performance to “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”
