Three of our stories this week highlight positive moves in the Wiscasset small business scene: a former seafood market off the market and about to enter the restaurant business; a longtime collision center getting its next life with an owner the last owner has confidence in; and Wiscasset Marketplace getting picked over a Bath space for a brewery.

Welcome to Wiscasset and Route 1, all, and may your new or continuing business thrive. Let’s hear it for fresh starts in the new year, and more good business news small and large to come. It could happen and this town has the room and the will to grow.

Planning Board member Deb Pooler’s point Monday night is well taken about the lack of a planner and is as true as when the job first went away after a series of town votes; but this, for now at least, is the new normal, the planning and other boards are getting by, and this week’s stories indicate people are still willing to do business here.

If a would be-business gets discouraged and turns around, maybe the next stop will be a better fit for them. And people who tough out any potholes here to opening or expanding a business are likely well-prepared and equipped, or, if they persevere, can become so, via the process, and be stronger for it.

Week’s positive parting thought: For those of us who have less than no interest in pro football until next season now that the Patriots are out, look to whatever your New Year’s resolutions may have been and use that newfound non-viewing time to take a step toward accomplishing them, every week through the Super Bowl.
