Action For Animals distributes more treat bags

Action For Animals Maine delivered 50 individually packed treat bags to the Boothbay Fire Station May 13 for the firefighters there and in Boothbay Harbor. The young firefighters accepting the tasty donations were ready to give them a try right on the spot!
A few weeks ago, the group brought 40 bags to Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and eight to the Police Department.
On hand to present the bags were Action For Animals President Giselle Armstrong, Events Coordinators Betsy Pitcher and Lisa Smith; and youth volunteers Isabella and Abigail Lockesmith and Kale Rogers. Each bag contains a bottle of water and salty (chips or cheese doodly yummies) and sweet (Rice Krispies treats, granola bars, cookies and peppermints) snacks. Armstrong said, “They are all a vital part of the community. We want them to know they are thought of and appreciated.”
Pitcher said the Action For Animals board came up with this idea during one of its many brainstorming sessions.
Action for Animals Maine serves all of Lincoln County. Armstrong founded it to help pet parents in need of financial assistance when their pet needs an unexpected procedure, surgery, medications, followup visits, or emergency animal services. Since the group formed in 2019, it has helped 14 families cover such expenses.
The group’s recently revamped website, https://www.actionforanimalsmaine.com, makes it easier for pet parents in desperate need within Lincoln County to apply for health care financial assistance (see website for criteria). The nonprofit is also getting the word out this month with a Spectrum TV commercial.
Armstrong said donations have increased during this time of COVID-19. Fundraisers will begin for this year at Farm 23 on Route 96 on Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with an old fashioned cookout. Laura Puchalski at the Farm will be baking up special pet treats!
Attendees will be asked to “Find Butterball,” a stuffed animal version of Armstrong’s beloved German shepherd-rotweiler who will be popping up all over the region this summer.
