While growing up in Rockland County, New York, Ryan Donohue witnessed the exceptional care provided to his sister through her complicated illness. It was her pulmonologist who took on the role as primary care provider, and his approach and skill left a lasting impression.

“I was struck by the detailed and compassionate care he provided,” said Donohue. “That experience was a strong pull for me toward medicine.”

Donohue recently joined the Lincoln Medical Partners’ team as a pediatrician. He comes to the team after earning a medical doctorate at the Downstate College of Medicine at the State University of New York and completing a three-year pediatric residency at Maine Medical Center and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Donohue earned a bachelor of science in biology while graduating with honors from Cornell University.

During his residency, Donohue spent some time in Lincoln County, working with LMP Drs. Andrew Russ, Eric Worthing and Steven Feder. It was during this time that Donohue’s career path became better defined.

“Working with them made me start thinking more about providing primary care to newborns and following their care while having a strong connection to a hospital,” he said. “I love this area and there are good dynamics in the practice, so I’m happy to be back.”

Another factor in the move to the area was that his fiancé, Dr. Valerie Smith, was a Maine native and wanted to practice in her home state. Dr. Smith has joined Lincoln Medical Partners’ primary care and women’s health teams in Damariscotta.

The couple resides in Walpole and enjoys spending time in the mountains hiking, downhill and backcountry skiing, and rock climbing. Donohue also plays piano, is a vocalist and enjoys golfing, gardening, cooking and reading.

Dr. Donohue is accepting new pediatric patients. For more information, contact Lincoln Medical partners at (207) 563-4250.
