Philip A. McLellan, 83, died peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2013 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor with his loving family by his side.

He was born on February 8, 1930, the son of the late Albert and Dorothy Campbell McLellan. Growing up in Bath he attended local schools. After finishing with his schooling he began working. He worked throughout the state from Pemaquid to Waterville and all points in between.

While working as a chef at Colby College in Waterville, Philip met his future wife, Evelyn Brown. The couple first moved to Southport and then put down roots in Rockland. While in Rockland, Philip ran a small seafood stand from 1959 until he sold his business in 1970.

After moving from Rockland, he settled in Boothbay, where he worked for his brothers on their boats lobster fishing. He also had a business on Route 1 selling fresh seafood. In 1977 he opened his fish market on Route 27 in Boothbay. He retired from the business for a few years but reopened the restraint in 2000.

He was a hard worker and always had something going on the family described his as a workaholic. He liked to stay busy and was proud of all of his hard work and the things that he had been able to accomplish over the years. He was very fond of the Boothbay region and was always looking to lend a hand when he could. He would make food and donate it to various organizations throughout the region.

He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn McLellan; a son, Philip McLellan Jr.; and a brother, Capt. Robert McLellan.

Survivors include his sons, David McLellan and his wife Sally of Rockland, Michael McLellan of Boothbay, and Robert McLellan of St. Clarita, Calif.; brothers, Myron McLellan of Trevett, Richard McLellan of Boothbay, and Roland McLellan of Barters Island; sister, Lois Lowens; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday May 31 at 3:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor with the Rev. Dr. Sarah Foulger officiating. A private committal will take place at Evergreen cemetery.
