Plummer Gallery celebrates 50th season

Carlton, Joan and Gerry Plummer hosted an open house and reception at Plummer Gallery on Sunday, August 5. The gallery is located at Boothbay Shores in East Boothbay and is one of the oldest galleries in Lincoln County. In 1963 Carlton first hung his sign out on the porch of an old cottage at Ocean Point.
Guests attending the open house came from all over New England were joined by artist friends, former students and collectors around Maine. Several students dated back to Carlton's teaching days at Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, in 1958, and later at University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Door prize drawing winners were Jennifer and Brian Cook, who received one of Carlton's paintings; Cindy Hale, the recipient of one of Joan's floral paintings, and Douglas Light, Plummer stationery.
During the open house many guests strolled through the many gardens at the gallery and viewed many of Gerry's stone sculptures. Joan and Carlton had special shows on display highlighting a wide variety of work. Of particular note were brush drawings done as demonstrations for Carlton's advanced drawing III classes at UMass in the 1970s and 80s. Joan's semi-abstractions showed her design ability and caught the attention of many of the guests. These shows will be on display until Labor Day.
