Marine art exhibit
A new exhibit featuring artwork by marine artists living in Maine will be at 15 Warren St. in Wiscasset, from Thursday, Aug. 23, through September 23.
The Maine Art Gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed Monday through Wednesday.
The exhibit's pieces were selected by J. Russell Jinishian. With more than 35 years' experience, Jinishian is the nation's leading authority on contemporary marine art.
“Bound for Blue Water” by Jinishian is considered the definitive guide to contemporary marine art, and since 2001 he has been the publisher of Marine Art News magazine. He is the former director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Conn.
Jinishian studied art and art history at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University. He served as juror for the National Art for the Parks exhibition, sits on the advisory board of the National Maritime Historical Society, and is an honorary member of the American Society of Marine Artists.
