Warm up with ‘Frozen’

Mon, 12/30/2013 - 5:00pm

“Frozen,” the new hit by Disney Pixar, is currently playing at the Harbor Theater in the Meadow Mall. Crowds have been strong since it began playing, and owner Jason Sheckley has decided to add show times. It will play New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at 7 p.m., and January 2 also at 7 p.m. There will also be a special matinee showing on New Year's Day at 2 p.m.

Featuring not just one but two new Disney princesses, sisters Anna and Elsa of Arendelle both must overcome obstacles in their lives. Older sister Elsa, blessed or cursed with powers of ice and snow, struggles to control them after injuring her sister when they are very young. Anna, who doesn't remember the accident, struggles to understand why her sister refuses to see her and why the castle is closed to the outside.

On the day of her sister's coronation, events cause a newly crowned Elsa to accidentally reveal her powers to the frightened citizens of Arendelle. Fleeing to the North Mountain, Elsa comes to terms with her new life alone and sings “Let it Go,” a song already nominated for four Best Song awards, including a Golden Globe, and winning the Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for Best Original Song.

Anna set off in pursuit to bring Elsa back. She teams up with mountain man Kristoff, his reindeer Sven, and a goofy live snowman named Olaf (an accidental creation of Elsa) to bring summer back to the kingdom and return her sister to the throne.

Featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as the sisters, this Disney movie does not revolve around romantic love nearly as much as so many Disney films have. Rather, it revolves around the love in a family and the lengths Anna will go to save her sister. While the story takes place surrounded by ice and snow, the story will warm your heart and make you want to watch it again and again.

The movie is fantastic, with an amazing soundtrack and excellent voice talents. It takes some interesting twists, one of which solidly solves a program viewers will struggle with while creating a much more deadly issue at the same time. At the end of the December 29 showing, the packed audience at the Harbor Theater applauded loudly at the end.

When you go see the movie, be sure to stay during the credits, as there is a secret scene right at the end!
