'Grand and Glorious Yard Sale' is May 16-18 at new location
The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary has incredible bargains coming up at the “Grand and Glorious Yard Sale" May 16-18 at its new location this year. The new location is the old Borders book store at the Merrymeeting/Shaw’s Plaza on Bath Road in Brunswick, still with acres of free parking.
Donations are being accepted Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon until May 10 at the front door of the old book store. With 22,000 feet of space, the warehouse has been turned into a massive department store with about 12 “boutiques.” Every item has been cleaned, repaired, tested or ironed, to make it enticing for prospective buyers.
“We are raising money for Mid Coast Hospital, and every item has to be presentable,” said Margy Burroughs, Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary chairman of this big project. The 100-plus volunteers helping with the sale feel the same way.
The yard sale begins Friday, May 16, with the Preview Party from 6 to 8:30 p.m., when patrons may purchase goods, enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres made by area restaurants and volunteers, and enjoy the fellowship of other yard sale enthusiasts. Advance tickets are $20 per person, on sale until 5 p.m. May 14, available at Now You’re Cooking in Bath; Mid Coast Hospital Gift Shop, Gulf of Maine Books, and the yard sale drop-off. Tickets at the door are $25 per person, starting at 6:15 p.m.
The big sale is Saturday, May 17, 8 am to 3 pm, and Sunday, May 18, 9 a.m. to noon, with free admission both days. Please take tote bags to make purchasing easier, and trucks if you plan to buy furniture.
A new feature of the Saturday sale is the famous 4-inch homemade cookie sale, which continues as long as supplies last. Cookie bakers are hospital staffers and volunteers.
In the 22,000 square feet of space, the “management” team has set up over 100 handmade or borrowed or purchased eight foot tables, and over 1,000 feet of shelf space. Massive wall spaces being creatively covered with hooks and shelving for wonderful displays. Every table has many boxes of goods under it, waiting to be moved to the table top when space allows. Advice to shoppers: look high and low as well as on tables. Volunteers have thought of every possible way to create outstanding uses of space, so buyers can see the merchandise.
Sponsored by the Auxiliary, proceeds benefit health career scholarships for worthy Midcoast students and the Auxiliary’s pledge of $120,000 for technology upgrades for the Maternity Unit infant security system.
