Damariscotta town meeting: Write-ins only
As Damariscotta town meeting looms, there will be two open selectmen seats up for grabs.
And it seems no one wants them.
The time to petition to be placed on the ballot for the closed June 10 portion of the meetings has passed, and no one has come forth to have their names placed on the ballot.
It isn't just for selectmen, either; the school board had one opening, yet no one submitted papers.
The open seats on the board of selectmen include Selectmen’s Chairman Joshua Pinkham and Vice-Chairman Vicki Pinkham.
Jurate Barnes, town assessor, said multiple people had taken out papers, but didn't file them by the April 28 deadline.
School board member Sally Ferrell's term expires in June, and no other candidates had filed before the deadline in that race either.
For the two open selectmen slots and one school board slot, candidates will have to be written-in on the ballot. All three positions are three-year terms.
The secret ballot portion of town meeting is Tuesday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office, 21 School Street.
The open town meeting will be the following day at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater.
