A ‘C,’ again, for Woolwich Central School
Fri, 05/16/2014 - 8:15am
Woolwich Central School has kept its C grade from the state for another year.
Student test results led to the C, the most common grade the Maine Department of Education handed out. A note and chart that Principal Tom Soule planned to send parents on May 16 indicate that Woolwich Central is one of 209 Maine elementary schools to get a C this year.
“The methodology used for these letter grades is primarily based on how students score on math and reading on standardized tests given once a year. We don’t feel that this is the only measure that should be used to measure student progress or school quality, nor does it tell the whole story of the other positive things happening in our school,” Soule writes.
“However, these report cards provide data that show areas where we are doing well and areas that need focus. Woolwich is constantly working to improve student achievement. Our school and school system continues to focus on early intervention in the areas of literacy and math.”
