Land trust celebrates 25 years and new community preserve
U.S. Sen. Angus King will help the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) celebrate 25 years of conservation and announce the creation of a new 160-acre community preserve in Georgetown. The Morse Pond Preserve, scheduled to be open to the public in 2015, will provide public access to Morse Pond with a connecting trail to Reid State Park.
The Mooring Bed & Breakfast will host this membership celebration and community event at Walter Reid’s original oceanfront home on Seguinland Road on Tuesday, Aug. 12. A social hour and cash bar will begin at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by a traditional lobster bake. Attendees will learn the conservation story of the new preserve and get an insider’s look at proposed trails, access and use.
Event tickets ($50 per individual or $125 per patron) are limited and can be purchased online at www.kennebecestuary.org or by calling Anne Reiter at 207-442-8400. Event sponsors include Jorgensen Landscaping, The Mooring, Reed & Reed, Sharon Drake Real Estate, Stantec, Taylor Rental and Woodex.
