Wiscasset selectmen speak with lawyer
Litigation involving Ferry Road Development will be the subject of a closed-door meeting August 5, between Wiscasset selectmen and the town’s attorney. Tuesday night’s executive session is set for 6 p.m., followed by the board’s regular, open meeting at 7 p.m. Both sessions are at the municipal building.
The discussion with the lawyer involves upcoming mediation that’s required as part of the town’s continuing legal efforts to get back taxes from Ferry Road Development, Interim Town Manager Don Gerrish said on August 4.
Tuesday’s meeting has a packed agenda: The board is set to take up a request from Town Planner Misty Parker and Police Chief Troy Cline, to restrict parking in the commercial district on Route 1 from the power lines near Pottle Cove Road to the Woolwich town line.
In the last year, Wiscasset has gotten complaints about tractor-trailer trucks parked in that area making it harder to see near private drives, according to notes accompanying the agenda; and Parks and Recreation Director Todd Souza plans to speak with the board about appraisals as the next step in possibly buying land on Gardiner Pond.
“The appraisal value of the property is pivotal in all steps and decisions moving forward,” Souza’s July 31 memo to selectmen states. The appraisal work is also needed for the town to tap $275,325 in Land for Maine’s Future funding, according to the memo.
Tuesday’s agenda also calls for selectmen pick the board’s goals for this year. Suggestions members have submitted include working with the town’s school committee; marketing the industrial park; and resolving issues surrounding Mason Station.
