Encampment at Colonial Pemaquid August 9-10
Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site in New Harbor is hosting a 17th century encampment on August 9 and 10.
This free event highlights the early history of Maine; living history interpreters will showcase maritime, civilian, military and Native American aspects of life in colonial America.
The encampment is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The 17th century will come alive at Pemaquid with craft demonstrations, firearms displays, and much more.
Saturday and Sunday will feature a demonstration of cod splitting — preparing cod caught off the coast of Maine for a four-week voyage to England.
On Saturday, watch a reenactment of early international trade, as merchants haggle over goods, each in their native language. Everyone is invited to step back in time and discover life as experienced by the early settlers and adventurers in Maine.
