For the second year, a gala benefit for the Wiscasset Public Library will be held at Marianmade Farm, a wedding destination site in Wiscasset on the Sheepscot River. The event takes place Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Guests will be entertained by Opus One Big Band, a 19-member group, and can sample hearty hors d’oeuvres prepared by local restaurants and Friends of the Library and enjoy drinks from a cash bar provided and staffed by the Little Village Bistro.

The band, under the direction of Dale Perkins, will play popular swing and jazz pieces such as "Misty," "Satin Doll," and "In the Mood" — and dancing is encouraged. The musicians come from across Maine and many have been playing together for more than 20 years. Local actress Suzanne Rankin will again serve as master of ceremonies.

In addition to the food, drink and music, the event includes a silent auction that offers a wide variety of items including an overnight at the Marston Inn in Wiscasset, a character named after you in local author Lea Wait's newest book, 18 holes of golf, a plane ride for three, a boat ride on the Sheepscot for two including picnic lunch, a cooking demonstration, paintings, Asian wall hangings, a sculpture, a pastel portrait of your pet, flower arrangements, hand-crafted jewelry, a hand-woven black and silver shawl, a homemade cake, and certificates for yoga classes, house cleaning, landscaping or a construction project, and water testing.

Marianmade Farm is sponsoring the event along with One Stop Event Rentals of South Portland.

Prior to the event, tickets, at $20 per person, can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library or from committee members: Kate Curran, Wendy Ross Eichler, Judy Flanagan, Sally Gemmill, Tania Hayes, Michelle Peele and Linda Winterberg. Tickets will also be available, at $25 per person, the evening of the event at the entrance to the event site on 155 Federal Street in Wiscasset. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library.
