Sheriff’s office searching for blue Subaru
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a blue Subaru that collided with a Boothbay Region Ambulance Service ambulance on Monday afternoon, Aug. 17. The blue Subaru reportedly collided with the ambulance at 2:20 p.m. in Boothbay.
According to Sgt. Jason Nein, the ambulance was transporting a patient to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. The ambulance had activated its emergency lights and siren as it began heading north on Route 27.
As the ambulance approached Industrial Park Road, the Subaru pulled out of Industrial Park Road and turned on to Route 27. This resulted in the vehicle crossing the path of the approaching ambulance.
Boothbay Region Ambulance Service driver Cathy Rumminger was the emergency vehicle’s operator. She was not injured. Rumminger attempted to avoid the vehicle by braking and steering right. The Subaru struck the ambulance’s driver’s front side.
“The vehicle left the scene without stopping, and is described as an older blue Subaru Forester or station wagon. The offending vehicle should show damage to the driver’s side rear quarter panel,” Nein said in an email to the Boothbay Register.
The ambulance sustained minor damage, according to Nein. The ambulance was removed from service and taken to the garage for examination. The patient being transported didn’t receive any additional injuries from the accident, according to Nein’s email.
Nein and Detective Jared Mitkus are assisting Deputy Chad Gilbert, who is the primary officer investigating the accident. The Boothbay Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene. The ambulance service sent another ambulance to transport the patient to Brunswick.
If anyone has information about the vehicle involved, please contact Deputy Gilbert at 207-882-7332.
