Jane Blakemore

Jane Stevenson Blakemore died peacefully on Aug. 12, 2015.

She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to John and Jean (Hawkey) Blakemore on April 8, 1937. She attended high school at Gould Academy in Bethel and finished her high school career at the Boothbay Harbor High School.

Jane worked summers at the family business, The Smiling Cow, from 1950 to 1968 and worked winters in Portland at W.T. Grant, A.H. Benoits, and other local retailers.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, connecting with friends and family over the Internet, and water aerobics at the YMCA in Boothbay. Jane was a member of the Maine Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Maine Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Jane was predeceased by her parents and her first husband, Carlton Watts.

She is survived by her cousins, Sally Sample Johnson of East Boothbay and Susan Olson Baker of Mount Vernon, along with numerous cousins who live out of state.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane’s name to either the Maine Multiple Sclerosis Society, 170 U.S. Route 1, Suite 200, Falmouth, ME 04105, or the Maine Muscular Dystrophy Association, 39 Mechanic Street #100, Westbrook, ME 04092.

Jane will be remembered during the 10:30 a.m. worship service at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 30. A private burial service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston, Massachusetts, at a later date.
