Big band event raises over $6K for Wiscasset Public Library
Approximately 175 guests attended the Sept. 20 fundraising event at Marianmade Farm in Wiscasset on a glorious late summer evening, enjoying a fun-filled event of music, food and drink.
Guests mingled on the farm's spacious lawns overlooking the Sheepscot River and in its large barn where Opus One Big Band, composed of some 20 musicians from across the state of Maine, played classic big band and jazz selections entertaining the crowd.
It was the second year Marianmade Farm's owner Michelle Peele, has graciously offered her lavender filled property to Friends of the Wiscasset Library for what is becoming an annual fundraiser.
This year the event raised over $6,000 for the library, some $2,000 more than before. The number of guests also rose by some 50 people.
Delicious hors d'oeuvres were served prepared by Friends of the Library and by The Squire Tarbox Inn and The Little Village Bistro. In addition the Bistro provided and staffed a cash bar.
Throughout the evening, a silent auction of some 30 items was held, which brought in about half of the total money raised. And local author Phil Di Vice autographed copies of his newest book "Wiscasset and its Times" with proceeds going to the library.
Local actress Suzanne Rankin served as mistress of ceremonies.
Marianmade Farm sponsored the event along with One Stop Event Rentals of South Portland, which provided the chairs, and Friends of the Library.
Friends of the Library thanks all who bought tickets, prepared food and donated items to the auction. The funds raised by the event will be used to help maintain the library, housed in a 1799 building, and to upgrade its technology and its collection.
