Coulombe’s corporation purchases more Boothbay property
Any guesses who the lone bidder for a 1.5 acre of town-owned property in Boothbay was?
PGC5, LLC’s $275,000 bid was the only one.
PGC5 is located in Boothbay. The corporation also owns the Boothbay Harbor Country Club and several other Boothbay properties located near the town’s common, according to the selectmen.
The corporation’s general manager is Paul Coulombe of Southport. The corporation purchased property near the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and Leighton & Associates.
The selectmen voted 3-0 on Sept. 23 to accept the bid. The parcel is two former lots purchased by the town in 2008. The larger parcel is a .75 acre lot that once housed the Boothbay Animal Clinic. The town later purchased an adjacent half acre lot in hopes of building a new post office.
The town paid $270,000 for the former clinic property, and $20,000 for the adjacent lot.
The town’s plans never materialized. For the past seven years, the selectmen wondered what to do with the properties.
In August, the board voted to combine both lots and seek a $250,000 sealed bid. The selectmen also reserved the right to refuse all offers. The bid deadline was 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 23. According to the bid proposal, PGC’s offer was sent Sept 17.
“I’m disappointed we only got one bid, but we did get more than the minimum,” said Selectman Chuck Cunningham.
Town officials estimated their investment in the two properties is over $300,000. After purchasing the former veterinary clinic property, the town removed the building.
“I’m glad we got rid of it. And glad we got what we wanted,” said Selectman Dale Harmon.
In the bid, Coulombe indicated his future plans for the vacant property haven’t been finalized.
In a June 2014 Portland Press Herald report, Coulombe indicated a desire to make Boothbay a “luxurious tourist destination.”
In a separate envelope, a refundable 10 percent deposit check from TPI, LLC, was received. TPI is a separate limited liability corporation with a Portland address and lists Coulombe as the managing agent.
PGC5 consultant Steve Malcom, president and chief executive officer of Knickerbocker Group, was present during the bid proposal, and left after the bid was awarded.
