LincolnHealth Occupational Therapist Megan McCartney, MS, OTR will discuss how to improve cognition and memory at the Jan. 27 meeting of the LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group.

The LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group meets at 1 p.m., usually on the fourth Wednesday of every other month.

A growing body of research has found evidence that greater than normal declines in cognition and memory are associated with poor control of blood sugar among diabetes patients who are in their 60s or older.

Those studies suggest grounds for more aggressive approaches to managing diabetes in midlife and beyond. McCartney will discuss the link between diabetes and cognitive and memory decline and how people with diabetes can maintain and even improve cognition and memory.

The LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group meetsin the third floor of the Miles Campus of LincolnHealth to share experiences and send the message that no one should have to deal with diabetes alone.

The LincolnHealth Diabetes and Nutrition Program provides a range of services to diabetes patients and their families.
