Innkeepers Mark Osborn and Buzz Makarewicz of the Topside Inn on the Hill in Boothbay Harbor received exciting news from bedandbreakfast.com's Caroline Costello on Jan. 10.

Topside has been included in the website’s 11thannual Top 10 member inns for 2015 — the only inn or B&B in Maine to make the list and one of the two in New England with the Woods Hole Inn  of Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

Finalists for Top 10 honors were selected based on “a qualitative and quantitative analysis of traveler reviews on the website.” The independent panel of guest judges that selected the 2015 winners were: Caroline Morse, senior editor – SmarterTravel; Stirling Kelso, freelance travel writer and editor; Jessica Plautz, travel editor – Mashable; Laura Motta, director of publishing – ShermansTravel and Jo Piazza, managing editor - Yahoo Travel.

“Stunning harbor views, a convenient location, and delicious, local fare set this inn apart from the hotel crowd. The building felt like something out of a turn-of-the-last-century novel: white trim, beautiful lawns, amazing verandas and rows of Adirondack chairs to sit and relax in while sipping champagne. It was a very short walk into the center of town, but the town is so peaceful that there was no noise in the evenings to keep the guests awake.

“While the location and views are breathtaking, absolutely the best thing about the inn is the breakfasts! The breads are baked fresh. The menu features locally grown ingredients, including surprises from the inn's gardens. We had everything from handmade gnocchi with poached egg to sweet potato waffles with handmade granola and fresh garden greens.”

Osborn and Makarewicz are thrilled. Said Osborn, “We are happy to bring more attention to our state; and even more importantly, to add to all of the great things currently happening in the Boothbay region.”
