Snow, sleet, freezing rain headed our way ...
Fri, 01/15/2016 - 4:45pm
Make sure you’ve got your Wellies by the door for what Old Man Winter has in store.
Today, according to the National Weather Service: A slight chance of snow showers between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., then a slight chance of snow after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. A chance of rain, snow, and sleet before 2 a.m., then a chance of rain between 2 and 3 a.m., then rain and snow likely after 3 a.m. (how do they come up with these time frames?). Cloudy, with a low around 30. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday rain, snow, and sleet can be expected before 1 p.m., then sleet between 1 and 4 p.m., then snow and sleet likely after 4 p.m. High near 35. Breezy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.
Saturday night snow showers and sleet are likely, becoming all snow after 7 p.m., then gradually ending. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
WCSH Channel 6 reports the probability of rain or freezing rain late tonight is 90 percent. On Saturday, the freezing rain continues in the morning and turns to snow and rain in the afternoon and evening.
WGME Channel 13 posts the latest forecast models show freezing rain or rain transitioning back to snow during the afternoon. Any leftover snow/mix/rain will come to an end late afternoon/evening Saturday.
So there you have it. All three sources agree a wintery mix is hitting in the wee hours tonight and continuing through Saturday, and that accumulations, for the coast, are nil.
And, all sources cited agree on one thing: the sun, appropriately enough, is expected to return on Sunday.
In this case, dare I say it, the weather forecast isn’t likely to change!
