Dresden board sets deadline for debt payment to RSU 2
On December 3 the Dresden Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to take money from surplus to pay off $128,000 to Regional School Unit 2 by the end of June 2013.
The town auditor and auditor of RSU 2 recently settled a question whether the town owes the $128,000 in the first place, which the RSU 2 claimed in October the town owed. Both the RSU and selectmen agreed to give the auditor the task of examining the financial issue to resolve it.
The board determined Monday the total amount in surplus funds will come from two certificates of deposit, one totaling $102,000 that matures in March 2013 and the other amounting to $26,000 available now.
At its November 5 meeting, selectmen voted unanimously to use at a time of maturity – to be determined – funds to pay off the $128,000 due the RSU. Board members decided they have to obtain the maturity dates for the accounts and then determine which ones to use to pay off the amount.
Appointments
The board tabled the appointment of an EMA (emergency management administration) director until the next meeting December 17. There are two individuals from the Dresden Fire Dept. volunteering for the position.
Johnston prefaced the discussion with a comment about the lack of volunteers. “Here we are a small town and we have a tough time getting people to volunteer.”
Selectmen said members of the board may individually interview the interested volunteers or as a board it they appear before the board at its workshop next Monday, Dec. 10.
“I want to make sure they know there is no pay involved,” Selectman Alan Moeller said.
The board voted to appoint Jean Daigle to the Bridge Academy Charitable Trust for a term of three years until June 30, 2016 upon recommendation from a trust board member.
Swap shop items needed
Selectman David Probert announced the swap shop at the recycling center lacks items from clothes to household items, games and other articles. He said a lot of goods have gone for relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Members mentioned a shop recently opened in Richmond could have caused a drop in items as well.
The swap shop also seeks volunteers.
Probert said Mike’s Log Cabin in Wiscasset, which has a redemption center, had set up boxes for empty bottles.
