Wiscasset’s second annual Trails Day, May 21
Volunteers from the Wiscasset Community Center, the Morris Farm Trust, and the Wiscasset Conservation Commission are joining forces on Saturday, May 21, to lead a spring cleanup of trails in the town forest behind the Community Center, part of the West Woods trail network, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. If you would like to help, please meet at 9 a.m. sharp by the front doors of the Community Center. Parks and Recreation Director Todd Souza and Conservation Commissioner Neal Larrabee will lead the charge from there.
The trails need clearing after the winter and a few seasons of growth. Volunteers will help make the paths more clearly visible and will fill some wet spots with wood chips. The goal is to create trails that are user-friendly for all ages and to establish better connectivity between the Community Center, the Morris Farm, and the nearby Sortwell Forest. “It’s a pretty remarkable block of recreation land,” notes Souza. “Townspeople are lucky to have it.”
Come get a little exercise, enjoy being outside, and earn the satisfaction of knowing you are doing something to benefit the whole town. Dress for work, wear gloves, and bring clippers and/or small saws if you have them. There will also be tools available. Questions? Call Todd Souza at 882-8230.
