St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf is grateful for donations
How wonderful is this? Freedom Fellowship, in conjunction with the Woolwich/Wiscasset Baptist Church, and supported by Shaw’s, had a stuff-the-truck event at Wiscasset Shaw’s on Saturday, June 11. Thanks to their efforts, Help Yourself Shelf was able to restock with shelf stable items donated by many Shaw’s patrons. Also included were contributions amounting to over $180 that HYS will put to use at Good Shepherd Food Bank where the funds’ purchasing power is magnified six-fold. It is truly heartening that other faith communities in the area came together for this event to support the mission of providing food for those in this community and beyond who for whatever reason suffer food insecurity.
HYS would also like to thank the many anonymous people who leave bags of supplies at St. Philip’s. Too, appreciation is extended to those who support the bottle box at the transfer station. These funds have gone toward the purchase of many personal care and cleaning supplies which are not able to be bought with SNAP benefits that have been severely cut for many.
The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and the Wiscasset Senior Center are steady supporters of the mission and need to be singled out, as well, for thanks. Without the help of the groups and individuals who donate to this cause, the HYS would not be able to function.
St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, is open every Thursday to anyone from anywhere who are in need. Pantry clients are encouraged to come by 4:30 p.m. to sign in and to see what is available for selection. The pantry is officially open at 5 for choice time. For more information, call the church at 882-7184.
There are many ways of supporting others in need. In this time of garden growth, consider planting extra to be donated. Fresh produce is an important component for good nutrition. Should any desire to help, volunteers are welcome to contact at 882-7184. Should any desire to donate funds, make checks out to Help Yourself Shelf and send to St. Philip’s at 12 Hodge St.
Thanks again to one and all.
