RSU 12 negotiating committee reschedules tonight's meeting
Westport Island Withdrawal Committee meeting with RSU 12 Ad-hoc Negotiating Committee scheduled for 4 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 11 has been canceled and rescheduled due to the request of the negotiating committee.
The meeting is now set for Monday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m., at the Wiscasset High School Library.
Negotiating committee chairman Melinda Caron cited three reasons for postponing the meeting: “(1)Belinda has been ill most of this week and has not been able to fully pull the financial reports together; (2)Allan Hawkins the School Superintendent has stated that he feels that we should postpone due to him not being able to attend. It is very important that we have Allan’s input on admin services and other district information; (3) I am concerned with the spread of germs causing others to become ill.”
Westport Island Withdrawal Committee Chairman Gerald Bodmer agreed to reschedule the meeting. However, in a reply to her email, he wrote, “Should the bug continue to wage its war on others, we’d like to be sure to meet (with those left healthy) on Monday, to at least finish up on those ‘low-hanging fruit’ paragraphs as well as scheduled another meeting for later in the week.”
The negotiating committee members were appointed by the RSU Board of Directors to work with the withdrawal committee on a withdrawal plan.
If approved, the plan would allow Wiscasset to leave the district, which includes schools from Wiscasset, Westport Island, Alna, Chelsea, Somerville, Whitefield and Windsor.
