County Commissioners, Judge of Probate sworn into office
The first order of business for Lincoln County's new Commissioners Mary Trescot of Damariscotta and Hamilton Meserve of Newagen, officially sworn in January 2, was to volunteer for various boards.
Aside from a few updates by department heads, their meeting immediately following the official swearing-in ceremony was fairly short. Thomas Berry also made his oath to office as Judge of Probate, a post he has held for many years.
Trescot represents District 3, which includes Alna, Damariscotta, Dresden, Jefferson, Newcastle, Somerville, Whitefield and Hibbert's Gore. Meserve represents District 1, which includes Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Southport, Westport Island and Wiscasset.
A crowd of approximately 40 county staff members and local officials attended the ceremony, which was held in the historic Superior Court on the second floor of the Courthouse building.
Secretary of State Charles Summers led the ceremony. Attendees helped themselves to refreshments and chatted amicably before the regular meeting of County Commissioners began, the very first meeting of 2013.
Commissioner William Blodgett was nominated and appointed chairman of the board. He was also was nominated, accepted and appointed to represent Lincoln County on the Maine County Commissioners Association Board and Risk Pool.
Trescot was nominated and she accepted a seat on the Coastal Counties Workforce Board, a position formerly held by past Commissioner Lynn Martin. She also took a seat on the Two Bridges Regional Jail Authority Board.
Meserve will serve on the Regional Planning Commission and will serve as an alternate on the Jail Authority board.
