Edgecomb downed wires case dropped
A Waldoboro man no longer has a criminal mischief charge against him for allegedly bringing wires down onto an Edgecomb road while working an excavator October 19, 2012.
Judge Daniel Billings dismissed the Class D charge against Walter T. Brewer Jr., 54, in Wiscasset District Court January 24, after Brewer turned over a $1,330 check made out to Central Maine Power.
CMP agreed to the payment amount, Brewer's lawyer, Philip Cohen, said outside the courtroom.
Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Liberman did not object to the charge's dismissal.
Brewer said afterward only that he was relieved the case was over.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office summonsed Brewer October 26, in connection with the October 19 incident. Eddy Road in Edgecomb was closed to traffic after the excavator snagged the wires.
Brewer had not had permission to be using the excavator there, Tony Casella, co-owner of the site where Brewer had been working, said at the time.
