There are places in this world that seem to have more than a fair share of mysterious happenings. The Scots refer to these locations as “thin places” where the veil between this world and the eternal world is thin. Thin places are said to be places of energy often experienced beyond the limits of our five senses. Sometimes in these thin places, we are lucky enough to see, hear, smell, and feel things that are not of this world.

I find historical reports of “wildmen” and “gorillas” very interesting, especially when they bear the hallmarks of contemporary Bigfoot encounters. One of the earliest accounts, circa 1825, tells of the discovery of a huge humanoid skeleton (An Historical Sketch of Deer Isle, Maine by George L. Hosmer):
Stories of phantom hitchhikers can be found in every state. Not all of these stories have been as well researched as the following “The Red-Headed Phantom of Route 44” from Charles Turek Robinson’s classic book, The Ghost Files of New England (Covered Bridge Press, 1994). Perhaps you’ve seen the red-haired man too...
In March of 1639, long before the advent of aircraft or other man-made flying objects with which UFOs are often confused, James Everall and two companions made America’s first documented UFO sighting in colonial Boston. Purportedly, the three Massachusetts colonists observed a startling, immense flying light in the sky near Muddy River.

Today is a sad day for Lewiston, the State, and the Nation as we grieve the senseless loss of life in what should have been a fun family night of bowling. Maine is a 1 degree of separation kind of place and we will all be touched in some way by the events of last night.
This next ghost story from Charles Turek Robinson’s The New England Ghost Files (Covered Bridge Press, 1994) brings to mind a certain terrifying scene from Jaws...

Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Cheney Financial Group, Dennis Hilton, was recently recognized as Business Person of the Year by the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce (DRCC).
Damariscove Island is a ghost island. It is an uninhabited place, two hundred nine acres covered mostly in tall grass, raspberries, blackberries, and beach roses with a rectangular freshwater pond, huge in comparison to Damariscove’s overall size. The old Coast Guard Station and a few buildings including an island museum remain. Since 2005 it has been owned and managed by the Boothbay Region Land Trust and functions as a bird sanctuary during the summer months.

The statewide median sales price (MSP) increased 14.17 percent to $376,750. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.

The climbing team set off to explore how it might be possible to get to the vicinity of Mount Everest, find possible routes for ascending the mountain, and – if possible – make the first ascent of the highest mountain in the world.
