Alna church summer events
The Newcastle-Alna Baptist Church in Alna, well known for its bake sales and, more recently, its monthly public suppers, is planning several different fundraising events as the summer of 2016 approaches.
Because of a shortage of cooks, there will be no regularly scheduled bean and casseroles suppers from April to October. Instead, church members are developing ideas for a plant and yard sale in May, a music program and baked bean supper in June or July, and a barbecue cookout mid-summer.
On Sat., May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be a combination sale of hybrid day lilies, baked goods, and a wide variety of second hand items, from books and knickknacks to housewares, tools and more. The coffee will be brewing and there’ll be homemade munchies.
The sale will take place at Erskine Hall, next to the Alna Post Office on Dock Road.
