A week after Liz Brown’s last day as Alna’s town clerk, selectmen Sept. 9 hired a Palermo woman for the job. First Selectman Melissa Spinney said via text Sunday, the board interviewed two candidates, then voted 3-0 to hire Certified Maine Town Clerk Sheila McCarty.

“Both (applicants were) great. Sheila has so much town experience and knowledge along with a great personality we had to hire her,” Spinney said.

McCarty’s resume Spinney provided states from 2014 to last February, the 1981 Cony (Augusta) High School graduate, past emergency room secretary and private healthcare provider was Chelsea’s town clerk, deputy treasurer and deputy tax collector, among other duties.

Most recently, she worked for Holden; she has helped Whitefield with its books and more; been Palermo’s town clerk and been an assistant clerk and assistant tax collector for Belfast, the resume states.

McCarty starts Tuesday, Sept. 15, Spinney said.

Wiscasset Newspaper is seeking comment from McCarty. Her resume describes her as a resourceful, service-driven, quick learner.
