The American Cancer Society recently presented Randall C. Miller of Newcastle with a Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award. The award is the most honored accolade by the Society in New England, and it recognizes Miller’s remarkable accomplishments in support of the Society’s mission to celebrate lives, to save lives and to lead the fight for a world without cancer. Miller, the owner of Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Viper, has supported the Society for more than 20 years through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Damariscotta and other initiatives.

During the past four years, Miller has collected more donations than any other Real Men Wear Pink of Maine ambassador. He accomplished this in part by combining his dealership’s existing truck event with a new event, the Night of Pink, to expose a broader community of people to the Society’s mission. The Night of Pink includes catered food and auction donations from the surrounding community. He made multiple videos to promote the event along with a dedicated social media campaign. Alongside these efforts, Miller continued to support Making strides Against Breast Cancer of Damariscotta, running fundraising events year-round for the community.

“Randy has lost a number of friends and relatives, including his father-in-law, over the years to cancer which inspired him to want to make a difference,” said Reven Oliver, senior manager for community development at the American Cancer Society. “The admiration and respect for Randy from his staff and the community at large is clear. He is truly a special man who puts the welfare of others before his own.”

The Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award is named in honor of the late Sandra C. Labaree, a longtime American Cancer Society volunteer from Maine. Despite her death from breast cancer in 2000, Labaree’s spirit and values live on through this award. Each year, the local area Board selects the most inspired and passionate individuals to receive this prestigious honor whose service best exemplifies the Society’s organizational values of mission, stewardship, diversity, data-driven, and respect.
