Animal shelter sale a bargain hunter’s paradise
The Lincoln County Animal Shelter/Boothbay Region Human Society Thrift Shop threw open the doors of the thrift shop proper and adjacent garage on Route 27 in Boothbay Harbor, and welcomed bargain hunters galore on June 14 for the first of many fundraising sales.
Luck was with the volunteers and especially the shoppers, since the forecasted rain that threatened throughout the day held off until the very last minute.
LCAS board member and newly elected vice president, Lucy Harrington, manned the cash box, wheeling and dealing with customers who purchased solid oak end tables, vintage upholstered rockers, beautiful art, household and kitchen glassware and collectibles, lamps and sconces, mountains of comforters and bedding and similar must-haves.
As items were purchased from under the double-wide tent, LCAS Shelter Manager Betsy Pratt, Manager Assistant Ben Rand, Office Manager Carrie Koskela with shelter accountant Linda Foster and LCAS Board Members Kathy Williams, Ellen McFarland and Kim Fletcher formed a train of helping hands replenishing stock from the garage and the storage house also on the property. Helping hands also included David Pratt and board member/photographer Kelly Brook documented the event on film.
Inside the thrift shop proper, LCAS President Emeritus Loraine Nickerson headed up the store-wide 50 percent off sale while greeting customers old and new.
The blow-out sale also marks a rejuvenation of the Boothbay Region Humane Society Thrift Shop, underway June 16-18, to include easier access to product by customers, slashed prices, and a welcoming atmosphere.
The new elected Lincoln County Animal Shelter Board Members include Williams as president, Harrington as vice president, Martha Takatsu as treasurer, and Ellen McFarland as secretary.
With the success of the fundraising event, the board is considering holding regular fundraising sales throughout the summer and fall, all to benefit the ongoing mission of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Dates of the sales to be announced.
