Anne R. Mackie
Anne Robbins Mackie, 86, of Westport Island and Vero Beach, Fla., died November 2, 2013 in Vero Beach after a brief illness.
Anne was born in Andover, Massachusetts, the sixth of seven children of Eda (Tarbox) and Frederick Boyce, of whom a brother, James Boyce, survives her.
Raised on the Phillips Academy campus, she was educated at the Andover public schools, the Northfield School for Girls, and Pembroke College of Brown University (A.B., Mathematics). She later returned to Andover and raised a family with her husband of 57 years, Wilfred (Bill) Mackie. For most of her 86 years, she spent each summer at her mother’s family farm on Westport.
Anne worked in financial services, retiring as a training supervisor for Northern New England for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. After retirement, she and her husband divided their time between Florida and Westport.
While in Andover, Anne served as president of the Andona Society, raised funds for the Family “Y” (now MVYMCA), and led the Scouting and Camp Fire Girls chapters to which her children belonged. She was a member of South Church.
In addition to her husband and brother, she is survived by her children, Christopher (Jean Marie), Brian (Beverly), and Anne (Mark); two grandchildren (Katie and Brian); 24 nieces and nephews; and dozens of grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Anne’s warm, open, and joyful spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
At her request, there will be no memorial service. Interment will be on Westport next summer. Instead of flowers, she requested that donations be made in her name (Anne Robbins (Boyce) Mackie, ’45) to the Northfield Mount Hermon School (www.nmhschool.org/support-nmh).
