Another Community Lunch year ends
Community Lunch, originally known as Warming Space, began in November 2008. A group from St. Columba's Episcopal Church prepared soup, bread and dessert, and hosted the meal one Thursday each month. At the end of the season, in April 2009, several changes were planned. Meals would be offered every Thursday each month from fall to spring, the name of the event would be changed to Community Lunch, and other area churches would be involved.
Now, lunch is served every week at the Episcopal church and prepared in turn by members of the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church, the Southport United Methodist Church, the East Boothbay United Methodist Church, the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, the Helping Hands (Brenda, Bonnie and Beverly) from Southport, St. Columba's Episcopal Church and, new this year, the Boothbay Baptist Church. Around 50 people gather every Thursday to enjoy food and fellowship. Donations from those in attendance have allowed the groups to contribute over $1,300 to the Boothbay Region Food Pantry for the season.
This year's last luncheon was served on March 27 and plans are already underway for next season. Everyone is welcome to join the group for food and fellowship and to help with the preparation and serving.
