Antique Sale offers free admission to younger generation

What’s in a name? The Bath Antique Show and Sale, an antiques market held during the winter months, is making a change: it is dropping the word “Show” from its title. Why? Promoter Paul Fuller says it’s an attempt to make his venue relevant to more people, especially those under the age of 25.

An “antiques show” conjures up a vision of old furniture lined up museum-style, to be viewed but not sold. The truth is, the dealers who participate in these shows each month create inviting and imaginative combinations of antique merchandise, juxtaposing furniture from various styles and periods with textiles, paintings and decorative items all arranged to catch the eye and fire the imagination.

The Bath Sale is a market for quality aged merchandise and fine collectibles. The setting is energetic and friendly, aided by the presence of a café with dedicated seating where patrons may take a break and watch the action. In an effort to encourage the attendance of the young generation, the Bath Sale will try something new this month: it will offer free admission to anyone 25 years and younger. Quips Paul, “It’s the opposite of a senior citizen discount.”

The Bath Antique Sale takes place on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Bath Middle School, 6 Old Brunswick Road, Bath. It is easily accessible from the Congress Avenue Exit of Route 1, coming the north or south. The location is unaffected by the Bath viaduct work. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $5, free to those under the age of 25 and $4 to holders of Bath Sale cards or the advertisement in this publication.
