    The Art For Art’s Sake Show and Sale will be held Aug. 12-15. This favorite event of locals and visitors kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 12, but not at Hodgdon Yachts. For this year only, the venue has been changed to the Marylouise Tandy Cowan Field House at Boothbay Region YMCA.

    Organizer Leslie Muir-Volpe explained, “Hodgdon Yachts made an early decision to not hold events at the boatyard due to COVID. They scheduled a lot of maintenance/painting projects for the boat sheds. Then everything opened up, but they had already scheduled use of the sheds, so we had to find a new venue for this year.”

    The event opens with the Artists’ Preview Sale on Thursday, Aug. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend for that all-important sneak peek – and opportunity to buy what catches the eye!

    If an asterisk appears before the name of the artist or artisan, that person will be doing live demos on Saturday, Aug. 7. Artists and artisans include artist Christine Thalia Andersen, oil paintings exploring the Midcoast area and people, past, present and sometimes imaginary; Elise Andersen, Andersen Studio: handcrafted artwork in ceramic, fiber, paintings and prints; Andre Benoit, plein air painter, assemblist sculptor using repurposed wood; *Jill Butke, fiber artist/weaver: unique hand-woven cotton and wool wearables; artist John Butke, paintings inspired by Maine landscapes' ever-changing colors and forms; Martha Cowdery and Michael Tomko/At Roads End, artisans/creators: Maine-inspired and unique, locally sourced sea glass creations and original hand-painted floorcloths; *Rick Dickinson, traditional American impressionist: original oil paintings in a classic New England style;
