Thought-provoking artwork from survivors of domestic violence was on display at this month’s Wiscasset Art Walk Aug. 30. Thursday evening’s display on Main Street was to help draw awareness to the services offered by New Hope for Women, which has an office at 17 Water St., Damariscotta.

An informational table in front of women's boutique In the Clover featured drawings and exhibits from “Healing Through Art,” a New Hope for Women support group. The program offers an outlet for women who have experienced violence and other abuse.

The New Hope for Women display included T-shirts from the international Clothesline Project created by survivors of violence, or by those who love and support a survivor. To learn more about New Hope for Women and its services and resources, visit www.newhopeforwomen.org

This is the third Wiscasset Art Walk of the summer. The downtown events are held on the last Thursday of the month. If you missed it, the final one for this year is 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27.

Lucia Droby, Violet Brandwein of Wiscasset and Mary Ellen Barnes, executive director of the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission, organized the Wiscasset Art Walk, now in its sixth year. Its popularity has continued to grow attracting many visitors from near and far to Maine’s prettiest village.

Wiscasset’s many art galleries and gift shops stayed open late for the event. Treat’s offered free wine and cheese tasting while at the corner of Main and Middle streets visitors could enjoy live acoustic guitar-playing by Rick Turcotte.

Artist Leonard Meiselman discussed his oil paintings in the former Rendall Fine Art Gallery at 65 Main St., while on the street, the Pop-Up Gallery at 64 Main St. featured the artwork of Wiscasset artist Donna Barnako.

Art Walk sponsors include: Ames True Value, Big Barn Coffee, Carl M.P. Larrabee Agency, Carriage House Gardens, First National Bank, Peter H. Eaton & Joan Brownstein Antiques, Red’s Eats, and The Maine Real Estate Network/Chris Almasi, broker; with additional sponsors Emotions in Writing, In the Clover and Donna and Frank Barnako.
