Auditions for 'Something Rotten' April 25, 28 and 29
The Waldo Theatre in Waldoboro has announced the audition schedule for its upcoming community theatre musical comedy, "Something Rotten," to be staged this August.
An open casting call for character and ensemble roles will be held at the theatre on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. and Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Dance ensemble-only auditions will be held on Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. All local dancers aged 16 and up are encouraged to audition - especially those with tap expertise.
Something Rotten is set in the 1590s, where brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." So, with the advice of a soothsayer, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. In addition to more than a dozen character roles, the cast will be rounded out by various ensembles of singers, dancers, townspeople, Shakespeare groopies, writers, Puritans, and more!
Something Rotten will be directed at The Waldo by Soren Barker of Boothbay, with choreography by Niall Lessard of Bristol Mills, and musical direction by Mariah MacFarlane of Waldoboro - the same creative team that staged The Waldo’s hit musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" last September. Performances are scheduled for August 21 - 23 and 28 - 30.
“This will be The Waldo’s most ambitious theatre production in more than a decade,” said George Bates, Waldoboro resident and The Waldo’s Community Theatre program director. “The sheer scope of cast, costumes and dance production numbers will far surpass anything that has appeared on this stage in years.”
The Waldo Theatre is located at 916 Main St. in Waldoboro. Information and audition details at: www.thewaldotheatre.org/audition
