With her children nearby, Barbara Louise Dewey (Pomerleau, née McKown) passed away on May 8, 2018, in Cerritos, California. Barbara was born on Dec. 18, 1924 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine to the late Frederic McKown and the late Hazel Farnham.

In 1948 Barbara met the love of her life Lauriat Pomerleau while training in nursing school who she then married. In their spirit of adventure, they bought an old car with bald tires and drove to southern California to pursue careers and raise a family. Together they had three children, Thomas, Cynthia and Suzanne, who gave them seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They spent 38 amazing wonderful years together until Lauriat succumbed to cancer in 1986. Later Barbara was married to Marvin Dewey until his death in 2005.

Barbara was a dedicated RN (registered nurse), an amazing, wonderful woman who everyone loved. She was loving, caring, family oriented and a workaholic. She loved humming birds, blue berries, and enjoyed painting as a hobby. Barbara was an extraordinary mother, wife, and grandmother.

Barbara always looked forward to a summer clambake at the family camp on the coast at Linekin Bay, East Boothbay, Maine. She had a love of eating whole fresh Maine lobster, especially on her birthday. We've never seen anyone who ate every last part of the lobster like she did! She passed that skill on to her children and grandchildren, she taught them well.

Barbara is survived by her three children. The oldest of 10 siblings, she is survived by George McKown, Joyce Graffam, Martha McKown, Margie Yocum; and preceded in death by Frederic McKown, Laurie Jeanette Morey, Marilyn Collins, Robert McKown and David McKown.

She will be truly missed by many.
