Bath Housing has received a $100,000 grant from Maine Housing to help older Mainers and Mainers with disabilities to stay in their homes. Bath Housing’s program, Comfortably Home, provides high-impact, low-cost minor home repairs to homes from Freeport to Boothbay Harbor.

Maine is facing housing challenges when it comes to safe and accessible homes for older Mainers. Bath Housing launched a creative solution to help Mainers stay in their homes and stay part of our community in 2015 and has since served over 170 participants. “Bath Housing created Comfortably Home because we know how important it is for older citizens to remain in their homes. Studies have shown that staying in their homes leads to longer a longer life, with improved quality of life,” said Debora Keller, executive director.

Bath Housing’s Comfortably Home professional maintenance team works with the homeowners to repair and modify their homes as they get older. Improvements include installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, adding grab bars in the shower and throughout the bathroom, raising toilet seat height, and many other repairs – all at no cost to the homeowner. “Thank you for making my house safe. Your team did a wonderful job of attaching grab bars, etc. I can take my bath and know I can get out safely now,” said one recent participant.

“We are grateful to Maine Housing for providing this funding which will help continue the tradition of Mainers helping Mainers,” said Keller. The funds will support work on another 75 homes in the region.

Bath Housing is a non-profit organization that works to enhance housing stability for seniors, those with disabilities and families in the greater Bath area in order to have a safe, vibrant and prosperous community.
