The construction of the new Bath viaduct is continuing ahead of schedule according to MaineDOT. All 19 of the pier columns and pier caps were completed earlier than projected, and 17 of 20 superstructure sections are now in place, also ahead of schedule. At the current pace, MaineDOT projects that the superstructure spans will all be in place by mid-March.

MaineDOT Resident Glenn Philbrook estimates that work continues to proceed approximately three weeks ahead of schedule. Philbrook commented, "We are making good progress, as I'm sure people can see as the new viaduct is taking shape. The sub-structure work was completed earlier than planned, and we are moving right along in getting the superstructure in place." Philbrook continued, "We are forming and placing curb sections on the superstructure, and have 24 of 40 completed already." Philbrook credits the good work of MaineDOT's contractors and the generally good weather for enabling the project to be ahead of schedule. "We've only had to dedicate a few days this winter to snow removal, and that's certainly helped." Philbrook also wanted to thank residents who live and work in the vicinity of the project. "We know this project is very disruptive to those living close to the viaduct. We really appreciate their patience during construction."

Work on the Bath viaduct is expected to be complete by Memorial Day 2017, with only finishing touches to follow.

Through April, drivers should expect daily lane closures that may be in place around the clock with the exception of eastbound travel from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and westbound travel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Delays for both peak and off-peak hours have been consistently less than 3 to 5 minutes.

The new Bath viaduct project will result in significant improvements to pedestrian sidewalks, crosswalks, signage and lighting - important due to the growing popularity of Historic Downtown Bath. Looking ahead to the summer season, Philbrook added, "The people of the community and our summer visitors will all be able to enjoy the benefits of the work we have put in these last several months, with noticeable upgrades to the entire area under the viaduct, and of course on the new viaduct itself."
