Help make local veteran Barry L. Pendleton’s wish come true.

Barry continues to battle Stage 4 cancer of his lungs, prostate and bones. His wish: to see his brother in Seattle, Washington one last time. Barry also needs help covering treatments and medical bills not covered by insurance.

A potluck dinner and silent auction will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Southport Town Hall from 5-7 p.m. to help get him closer to his flight west and, hopefully, with some of the bills.

From 1969 to 1973 he served aboard the FDR CVA-42 as a BT with the 6th Fleet in Vietnam.

Barry worked at Bath Iron Works in Dept. 09 from 1973-77. From 1999 to 2012 he worked for Harris Golf and Jim Reeves at the Boothbay Country Club as groundskeeper, a.k.a. “The Weedwacker Man” and “The Guy with the Gray Mustache.”

These years of service were enjoyable for Barry who says members of the public have given him many moments of pride serving them.

If you wish to make a donation for the auction, please contact Barry’s wife Lucille at 633-0663.

For the potluck, please bring casseroles, salads or desserts and your own beverages.

Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted that evening as well. For those who cannot attend the event, but want to make a donation, an account – Barry Pendleton Benefit - has been set up at The First National Bank on Oak Street in Boothbay Harbor.

The Southport Town Hall is located at 361 Hendricks Hill Rd./Route 27.
