BH Opera House: The Phaeton Trio this Friday
Based in Weimar, Germany, the critically acclaimed Phaeton Piano Trio is currently touring the U.S. and has included a concert stop at the historic Opera House in Boothbay Harbor on Friday, Nov. 7. The evening will include music by Haydn, Rachmaninoff and Moussorgsky.
Members of the trio include violinist Friedemann Eichhorn. In addition to his extensive recordings for Hanssler Classic and Naxos, he is professor of violin at the Weimar HochschulefurMusik ”Franz Liszt” and Artistic Director of the renowned Kornberg Academy. He’s recently performed with the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia di Roma at the Spoleto Festival. He has performed as a chamber music partner with G. Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, B. Pegamenschikov and many others.
Peter Horr, cellist, is a sought after chamber music partner, especially as a founding member of the Mozart Piano Quartet, an ensemble that performs worldwide. He was awarded the ECHO Klassik Prize for this recording of the Duport cello concerti and has been the Artistic Director of the Hafkapelle Weimar since 2010.
The third member of the trio, Florian Uhlig as pianist, is an honorary member of the London Royal Academy of Music. He made his orchestral debut at the London Barbican and has appeared at the leading concert halls across the globe. The Hanssler Classic label has released 30 of his CDs. He is the Artistic Director of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival and Professor of piano at the MusikhochschuleLuebeck.
A recent New York concert was described as “…the playing by the Phaeton Trio was everything one could hope for. The three gentlemen seized our imagination with the urgency of their opening phrases. The flow of music from the keyboard underscores lambent sounds from the violin and cello; everything melds into a rich blend, which has the emotional pull of Olde World style and grace. My companion and I were soon swept into that world by the Phaeton's inspired — and inspiring — playing.”
