BHML part of Janet Reit’s weekly routine

Born and raised in Littleton, Massachusetts, this week's library patron Janet Reit enjoys spending some of her free time at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. Her family had a summer home in Boothbay so growing up Reit always felt like Maine was her second home. And Reit has always used the library as much as she needed.

Through the years, coming to the library has become a part of her weekly routine and something she looks forward to. She has been a BHML patron since 2006 and always discovers something new when she comes in.

Reit spends more time at the library than she did as a child. She now appreciates getting different views on topics the library offers.

When Reit visits the library, she always goes to the new books sections first. She likes to try to find something new to read.

She doesn’t always finish everything she checks out. Just giving different books a try is what she loves so much about the library. When she was little, one of her favorite books to check out was “Mary Poppins.”

During the pandemic, Reit appreciated the library being open. That allowed her to keep a somewhat normal schedule when other things were so different.

“Au Talks” are favorite events of Reit’s. BHML Executive Director Joanna M. Breen said the library has author talks throughout the year. One is set for Saturday, July 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. with Matt Cost, Breen said.

My next library patron will be John O'Connell, who enjoys old books new to him.
