A Blue Line picnic in Wiscasset

Much needed positive energy was felt last Sunday at a gathering to honor and support Wiscasset Police Department. Organized by four friends who felt the need to let their local officers know how much they were appreciated, the event was held at Seafield Farm, the home of Katharine Martin-Savage. All local full- and part-time officers and their families, numbering around 30, were invited to a barbecue picnic, and about the same number of residents attended, with the aim to personally greet, welcome and thank each of the officers and their family members. An impressive variety of donated food accompanied the traditional hamburgers and hot dogs. A large cake, decorated as a “Thin Blue Line” flag, accompanied many delicious homemade desserts.

Small tables were properly distanced across the wide expanses of lawn, under tall shade trees, which provided a welcome respite from the hot, humid weather. Music was provided by the popular Salty Dogs and their singer, Debbie. They performed a moving solo rendition of the national anthem and “God Bless America.” The lively music was the perfect backdrop for an outdoor afternoon gathering, and provided the perfect party atmosphere we have all been missing for the last few months.

Nothing marred the warm spirit of patriotism and pride in our local police force, who much appreciated the effort which went into this expression of support for them and for their work to protect and serve our community. It was truly a statement by many that we support and honor our police force.
